**Stephanie White Departs as Connecticut Sun Head Coach**
In a surprising move, the Connecticut Sun announced that Stephanie White will no longer serve as their head coach. The team expressed gratitude toward White for her dedication over the past two seasons.
Sun president Jen Rizzotti acknowledged White's contributions to the team. "We want to thank Stephanie for her time in Connecticut and her commitment to our organization over the past two seasons," Rizzotti said in a news release. "We wish her the best in her future endeavors."
White, 47, joined the Connecticut Sun in 2023 and immediately made an impact, guiding the team to a 27-13 record in her first season and earning the WNBA Coach of the Year honor. In 2024, she led the team to an even better 28-12 finish. Despite their strong regular-season performance, the Sun fell short in the playoff semifinals both years.
This change marks the seventh coaching departure in the WNBA off-season, with other teams like the Los Angeles Sparks, Chicago Sky, Atlanta Dream, Dallas Wings, Washington Mystics, and Indiana Fever also parting ways with their head coaches.
White's coaching journey in the WNBA began as an assistant with the Chicago Sky from 2007 to 2010. She later served as an assistant and then head coach for the Indiana Fever from 2011 to 2016. Before joining the Sun, White spent five seasons coaching at Vanderbilt. As a player, she had an impressive career, playing high school and college basketball in Indiana (Purdue) before being drafted by the WNBA's Charlotte Sting in 1999.
