**Colts Confirm Richardson to Remain Starting Quarterback Despite Flacco's Strong Performance**

Indianapolis -- Amid speculation surrounding the Indianapolis Colts' quarterback situation, head coach Shane Steichen clarified on Monday that Anthony Richardson will continue as the starting quarterback upon his return from injury. This decision stands firm despite a notable performance from veteran backup Joe Flacco in a recent game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Richardson was sidelined for Sunday's clash due to an oblique injury sustained during Week 4's victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his absence, Flacco led the offense, delivering a commendable performance in the 37-34 loss to the Jaguars. Flacco completed an impressive 33 of 44 pass attempts, accruing 359 yards and three touchdowns, with a substantial portion of this yardage—183 yards on seven completions—coming in the fourth quarter against Jacksonville's struggling pass defense.

Flacco's 75% completion rate starkly contrasts Richardson's 50.6% across his first four games of the current season. However, the Colts have won both of Richardson's most recent starts, and the organization remains steadfast in its commitment to the young quarterback. Evaluating Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft, remains a top priority for the Colts this season.

Richardson, who has started a total of eight games in his short professional career, missed 13 games due to injuries last season before taking the reins for the initial four games of 2024. While he has wrestled with turnovers, including six interceptions, Richardson boasts notable stats: he ranks third in the NFL for yards per attempt at 8.5 and leads in air yards per attempt with 12.0.

Despite the injury setback, Richardson expressed optimism about his recovery and his potential return for Week 6 in the Colts' upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans.
