The Cincinnati Bengals may be without one of their top receivers when they face off against the back-to-back Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, this Sunday. Wide receiver Tee Higgins is listed as doubtful for the game, as he has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of practice all week.
Higgins suffered the hamstring injury on September 5, and it has proven to be more severe than initially anticipated. Despite his absence from practice, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has not ruled out the possibility of Higgins suiting up on Sunday. "We'll see where he's at," Taylor stated, hinting that there is still a chance for Higgins to play.
In addition to Higgins, the Bengals could also be missing several other key players as they aim to secure their first Week 2 victory under Taylor's leadership and avoid starting the season 0-2 for the fifth time in six years. Rookie defensive tackle Kris Jenkins will be unavailable due to a thumb injury, while offensive tackle Amarius Mims (pectoral) and tight end Tanner Hudson (knee) are both doubtful for the game. It is worth noting that Mims and Hudson were not expected to start this weekend.
Despite the uncertain status of Higgins, the Bengals have found solace in the strong performances of their top wide receiver, Ja'Marr Chase, during the week's practices. Chase, who dealt with a contract dispute throughout training camp, has showcased his skills and earned praise from Taylor. He was not listed on the injury report this week, indicating that he is fully cleared to play.
As for any potential lingering tension between Chase and the coaching staff due to the contract situation, Taylor assured reporters that the team is in a "great spot." He expressed his appreciation for Chase's energy and the improvements he has made during practice, indicating that any previous issues have been resolved.
The Bengals will undoubtedly face a tough challenge against the reigning champions, the Chiefs, and the absence of Higgins could impact their offensive strategy. Nevertheless, Cincinnati remains hopeful for a strong performance from their remaining receivers as they aim to secure a victory on the road this Sunday.
