The move comes just days after reports surfaced that Higgins had signed his franchise tender.
Head coach Zac Taylor expressed his excitement about Higgins returning to the team, stating, "I'm excited to move forward with Tee. He's done a great job handling his situation, and we are happy to get him back in the fold so we can start working toward a great 2024 season. The locker room will be excited to have him back around."
Higgins, 25, was franchise tagged by the Bengals in February after completing his rookie contract with the team. Since being selected as a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Higgins has showcased his talent, accumulating 3,684 yards on 257 catches with 24 touchdowns.
Under the terms of the franchise tender, Higgins is set to earn $21.8 million for the 2024 season. However, there is still a window of opportunity for him and the Bengals to negotiate a long-term deal, as they have until July 15 to reach an agreement.
While the focus is on Higgins' contract situation, it is worth noting that another Bengals receiver, Ja'Marr Chase, is also eligible for a contract extension. Chase recently attended Cincinnati's mandatory minicamp after choosing not to participate in the team's voluntary offseason program activities.
As the Bengals head into the 2024 season, the signing of Tee Higgins brings stability to their wide receiver corps. With his solid production and the potential for a long-term deal, Cincinnati fans can look forward to seeing him make a significant impact on the field.
