In a recent interview with People magazine, actress Christina Applegate has shared her journey and struggles with multiple sclerosis (MS). The 52-year-old "Married... With Children" alum, who was diagnosed in 2021, sat down with fellow MS patient Jamie-Lynn Sigler to discuss the highs and lows of living with the disease.
Applegate revealed that her battle with MS had taken a toll on her physical health, causing her to lose 30 pounds after initially gaining 45 pounds as her illness progressed. The actress even joked about her weight loss during her surprise appearance at the Emmys in January, stating that her "body (was) not by Ozempic," a diabetes drug that she was falsely rumored to be using.
The actress also shared that she had experienced intense pain and vomiting, resulting in multiple hospitalizations. She expressed that her stomach and intestines were not on good terms, causing discomfort and leading to significant weight fluctuations. Additionally, Applegate divulged that she sometimes faced issues with urinary incontinence, necessitating the use of adult diapers in her day-to-day routine.
Despite these challenges, Applegate and Sigler found humor in the situation, joking about the floral-stamped design of adult diapers and expressing gratitude for the benefits of having a handicap placard, including convenient parking. The two actresses met in 2021 through mutual friend Lance Bass, with Sigler having lived with MS for over two decades.
During an appearance on "Good Morning America," Applegate reflected on her Emmys appearance and candidly admitted to feeling overwhelmed and not fully remembering her remarks during the event. However, she expressed gratitude for the support she received from the audience, emphasizing the love she felt.
Both Applegate and Sigler are determined to raise awareness about MS and continue their fight against the disease. Despite the challenges they face, they remain hopeful for advancements in finding a cure for MS.
As Applegate continues to openly share her battle with multiple sclerosis, she serves as an inspiration to others facing similar health struggles. Her willingness to bring awareness to the disease and discuss its impact on her life is commendable, reminding us all of the importance of strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
