In an update following the Kansas City Chiefs' training camp practice on Monday, head coach Andy Reid shared some encouraging news regarding the recovery status of wide receiver Hollywood Brown and rookie offensive lineman McKade Mettauer.
Brown, who suffered a sternoclavicular dislocation during the Chiefs' preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, received positive news in terms of his recovery. Reid confirmed that the joint was successfully put back into place without the need for surgery. Brown has since returned to Kansas City and is currently undergoing further evaluation to determine the next steps in his recovery.
Reid also provided an optimistic update on Mettauer, who left the Jaguars game with a knee injury. Fortunately, the rookie undrafted free agent has avoided the worst-case scenario, as there was a tear in his MCL rather than the more severe ACL injury. This means that Mettauer will not require surgery. However, his progress will be closely monitored in the coming days to ascertain the length of his recovery period.
In other injury news, safety Bryan Cook was absent from Monday's practice due to personal matters. Reid later revealed that Cook had left to attend the birth of his child, a joyous occasion for the player and his family.
Additionally, Reid provided updates on several other injured players. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was sidelined with an illness, while defensive tackle Chris Jones and wide receiver Jaaron Hayek are making positive strides in their return from shoulder injuries. Offensive lineman Wanya Morris is dealing with a bone bruise on his knee, according to Reid.
The Chiefs will continue to closely monitor the progress of Brown, Mettauer, and the other injured players as they prepare for the upcoming season. The team remains hopeful that they will be able to make a full recovery and contribute to the success of the Chiefs in the near future.
