In a recent development surrounding the iconic rock band Linkin Park, Jaime Bennington, son of the late Chester Bennington, revealed on his Instagram story that he has been facing aggressive behavior from certain fans. Jaime had spoken out against the hiring of Emily Armstrong as the new lead vocalist for the band, citing concerns about her ties to Scientology and her past support of convicted rapist Danny Masterson.
Expressing his concerns, Jaime shared, "There are a lot of people who do not like me. There are a lot of people saying some really awful shit right now to me." He also expressed apprehension about his safety when attending the band's upcoming show in Los Angeles on September 11. He stated, "To be honest, I don't feel safe going to the show under general admission because I don't know who I'm around."
Despite the harassment, Jaime expressed his desire to attend the show, explaining, "I do need to see it." The band, with Emily Armstrong as the lead vocalist, is gearing up for the release of their first album since Chester's tragic death in 2017. The album, titled "From Zero," will be accompanied by a tour.
Jaime lamented the behavior of some Linkin Park fans, saying, "So many of these Linkin Park fans who will be attending have been cruel, unusual and aggressive." He shared instances of fans attacking him online, even telling him to harm himself and disregarding his emotional connection to his father's legacy. He firmly asserted, "If you did care, you would understand why this is all wrong. I do because I'm his kid."
In a plea to Linkin Park fans, Jaime posted a follow-up statement on his Instagram story. He appealed, "While attending the show, please do not harass me or my partner. Respectfully, we are attending for closure." He went on to emphasize that if anything were to happen to him or his partner during the concert, the responsibility would lie with the band.
However, Emily Armstrong also addressed the situation, stating that her support for Danny Masterson was a mistake. She expressed remorse, clarifying that she does not condone abuse or violence against women and empathizes with the victims.
Linkin Park is currently scheduled for a six-date arena tour that includes concerts in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul, and Bogota. The highly anticipated new album is set to release on November 15, marking a significant moment for the band and their dedicated fanbase.
The ongoing controversy surrounding the new lead vocalist and the harassment faced by Chester Bennington's son highlights the emotional attachment fans have to the band and the pivotal role it played in their lives. As the tour approaches, it remains to be seen how the band and fans will navigate this challenging situation and find common ground to honor Chester's legacy.
