The Los Angeles Chargers concluded their preseason with a 26-19 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, setting the stage for some challenging decisions regarding their final 53-man roster. Coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz have until 1 p.m. PT on Tuesday to trim down their roster from 91 players, and several players have made compelling cases for inclusion.

Simi Fehoko and Brenden Rice have emerged as strong contenders for the sixth receiver spot on the roster. Both players have impressed with their performances and have showcased their ability to contribute on both offense and special teams. However, with limited spots available for receivers, it remains to be seen who the Chargers will choose to keep.

Another player who has made a compelling case for inclusion is running back Jaret Patterson. Throughout the spring and summer, Patterson has consistently shown his skills and has led all Chargers running backs in scrimmage yards and scrimmage yards per touch in the first two preseason games. With his special teams capabilities as a returner and coverage player, Patterson could add versatility to the Chargers' running back room.

As the roster decisions get tougher, the Chargers must also determine the number of offensive linemen and interior defensive linemen to keep. Additionally, the question of whether undrafted free agent Tre'Mon Morris-Brash will be the sole undrafted player to secure a spot on the final roster remains unanswered.

One particular position of interest is the backup quarterback role behind Justin Herbert. Although Easton Stick has been projected to make the initial 53-man roster, his performances during training camp and preseason games have raised concerns. Stick's struggles with accuracy and inconsistent production have put his position in jeopardy. With Herbert's return to form and the Chargers' continuous search for upgrades, it wouldn't be surprising if they look for backup quarterback options on the cuts made by other teams.

In terms of tight ends, the Chargers will likely start the season with three players. Donald Parham has showcased his potential as a red zone target with a strong connection to Herbert. However, his blocking skills still need improvement, which may leave the team looking for a blocking tight end to bolster the group.

The battle for the ninth offensive line spot has become an intriguing competition between Sarell and Leatherwood. Sarell has demonstrated better overall performance in both practice and preseason games, showing versatility by playing multiple positions on the line. On the other hand, Leatherwood has struggled as a pass protector and run blocker, primarily playing tackle. As a result, Sarell's versatility and consistent performance may give him the edge in securing the final offensive line spot.

As the deadline approaches, Coach Harbaugh and GM Hortiz face challenging decisions in shaping the final 53-man roster. While projections have been made, it remains to be seen how their choices align with those of the team management. The Chargers will look to assemble a competitive roster that combines veteran experience with promising young talent to make a strong start to the season.
