In a startling turn of events, five British military horses caused pandemonium in the heart of London on Wednesday morning. The runaway horses, belonging to the Household Cavalry, broke free during a routine exercise in Belgravia, resulting in injuries to four individuals.
Eyewitnesses reported that the horses, still adorned with saddles and bridles, were spooked by nearby construction workers before throwing off their riders and charging through the bustling streets. Footage captured on social media showed one of the horses thundering past Buckingham Palace, while another, covered in blood, was seen galloping through Tower Bridge and the Strand.
The chaotic stampede led to unfortunate accidents involving vehicles. One horse crashed into the windshield of a silver Mercedes-Benz mini-van, causing damage. Additionally, a double-decker tour bus had its windshield shattered when another horse collided with it.
London's Metropolitan Police, initially taken aback by the unexpected situation, released a statement saying they were working alongside the Army to locate the loose horses. City of London Police, responsible for the city's financial district, managed to corral two of the horses and were awaiting the arrival of a horse carrier from the British Army to transport them to a veterinarian.
Amidst the chaos, three soldiers from the Household Cavalry sustained non-life threatening injuries, while a cyclist also suffered harm. All injured individuals received necessary medical attention.
The horses, originally preparing for a Major General's Inspection scheduled for Thursday in Hyde Park, were part of the prestigious Household Cavalry known for their ceremonial duties performed near Buckingham Palace.
The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of working with large animals and the potential risks involved. The British Army, along with relevant authorities, will undoubtedly conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the bolting horses and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Londoners are now hoping for a swift resolution to the situation, ensuring the safety of both the city's residents and the valuable equine members of the military.
