The agreement ensures that Hauser will remain an integral part of the defending NBA champions' core for years to come.
The contract extension, which will start during the 2025-26 season, does not include any player or team options for its final year. The 26-year-old Hauser has established himself as one of the game's elite long-range shooters, further strengthening his status this past season.
During the previous season, Hauser showcased his shooting prowess by connecting on an impressive 42.4 percent of his 3-point attempts. He averaged 9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, displaying his scoring and rebounding abilities. Notably, Hauser's performance shone brightest during the NBA Finals against the Mavericks, where he went 9 for 16 from beyond the arc in the final three games.
Earlier this month, the Celtics exercised their $2.1 million option for next season, keeping Hauser on the team for the upcoming season. However, negotiations for a contract extension were still required to secure his long-term future with the Celtics, a matter that has now been successfully resolved.
With this contract extension, the Celtics now have all five of their previous season's starters, alongside Hauser, Payton Pritchard, and Xavier Tillman, locked in under contract until at least the 2025-26 season. This provides stability and continuity for the team as they aim to build on their recent championship success.
While Hauser's deal rightly reflects the fair market value for a shooter of his caliber, the Celtics must be mindful of their escalating payroll. As a repeater-tax team, the extension will significantly impact the team's luxury tax bill, which is expected to rise by more than $60 million. Nonetheless, the Celtics' ownership remains committed to capitalizing on their perceived multi-year championship window, even as they seek potential buyers in the coming months.
Hauser's journey is a testament to his resilience and talent. After going undrafted in 2021, he signed a two-way deal with the Celtics on draft night. He quickly proved himself, leading to the conversion of his deal to a full-fledged NBA contract. In the summer of 2022, Hauser signed a three-year $5.7 million contract and stepped up to a more prominent role on the team following Danilo Gallinari's season-ending ACL tear.
The Celtics organization, fans, and Hauser himself can now look forward to a prosperous future together as they continue their pursuit of NBA glory.
