TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona Cardinals have announced that right tackle Jonah Williams has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury during Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills. The extent of the injury and Williams' timeline for return are still being assessed.

Coach Jonathan Gannon refrained from speculating on the duration of Williams' absence, stating that the team is in the process of gathering more information about the injury. Gannon also mentioned that it is uncertain at this point whether Williams will require surgery.

The injury occurred on the last play of the first quarter in the Cardinals' 34-28 loss to the Bills. Kelvin Beachum, a seasoned veteran with extensive experience since his seventh-round draft selection in 2012, stepped in to replace Williams during the game and will continue to man the right tackle position for the foreseeable future.

Gannon expressed confidence in Beachum's abilities, emphasizing his comfort level with the veteran's past performances. Regardless of who fills the role, Gannon assured that the team remains optimistic about their ability to get the job done.

Williams, who joined the Cardinals on a two-year contract in March worth up to $30 million with $19 million guaranteed, was a significant addition to the team's offensive line. His arrival coincided with the release of longtime left tackle D.J. Humphries on the same day.

While losing Williams early in Week 1 is undoubtedly a setback, Gannon acknowledged that injuries are an unfortunate part of the game. The Cardinals will now have to adapt and find ways to continue their success on the field without their standout right tackle.

In corresponding roster moves, the Cardinals promoted linebacker Julian Okwara from the practice squad to the active roster and signed offensive lineman Charlie Heck to the practice squad on Wednesday.

The team will now focus on moving forward, rallying around their upcoming games and finding solutions to navigate the absence of Jonah Williams in the offensive line.
