Buffalo Bills' latest acquisition, Joey Bosa, is set to miss significant time due to a calf injury suffered shortly after joining the team. Bosa, who signed a $12 million, one-year contract with the Bills just weeks ago, will not participate in any organized team activities (OTAs) and is not expected to return to practice until the training camp commences on July 24 in Rochester.

The setback for Bosa comes on the heels of his recent release from the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this year. Bosa arrived in Buffalo with the hope of reviving his career and establishing himself as one of the NFL's premier pass rushers once more. However, this injury complicates the start of his tenure with the Bills, especially as he approaches his 30th birthday on July 11 and after enduring three injury-marred seasons with the Chargers.

Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed Bosa's injury, explaining that the star player would be sidelined for the "foreseeable future." Bosa's previous seasons were plagued by groin, foot, hip, and back injuries, limiting him to 28 games over the last three years. During this period, he managed only 14 sacks, a stark contrast to his earlier performance which tallied 72 sacks since 2016, tying him for the tenth most in the league in that span.

Bosa was anticipated to fill the edge-rushing void left by the departure of Von Miller, providing the Bills a much-needed boost in their defensive lineup. His experience in the AFC West and familiarity with facing quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes was seen as a valuable asset, especially with Mahomes, who has been a critical obstacle for Buffalo in the playoffs. Mahomes improved his playoff record against the Bills to 4-0 following the Chiefs' victory in the AFC championship game.

The injury is a significant blow to Bosa's aspirations and the Bills' plans, casting a shadow over what both parties had hoped would be a revitalizing season. Fans and team officials alike now await his recovery and eventual return to the field.
