Buck's Bisexuality Stirs Up Mixed Reactions from Fans in 9-1-1's 100th Episode"
9-1-1 star Oliver Stark has taken to social media to address the mixed reactions from fans over a certain romantic subplot featured in the show's 100th episode. Titled "Buck, Bothered and Bewildered," the episode not only marked a significant milestone for the long-running drama, but it also delved into Buck's exploration of his bisexuality.
In an Instagram Stories post, Stark expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming positive response towards Buck's storyline. He wrote, "Humbled and overwhelmed by the positive reaction to Buck's storyline. I've read so many of your messages and I couldn't be prouder." However, he didn't shy away from addressing the critics, saying, "If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show, I would like you to know that I truly don't care."
Stark emphasized the show's commitment to love and inclusion, pointing out the portrayal of queer relationships since its inception. He highlighted a "beautiful Black lesbian marriage played out by two of the best actresses I've ever watched," emphasizing that Buck's exploration of his bisexuality should not be a deal breaker for fans.
The 100th episode of 9-1-1 concluded with an unexpected kiss between Buck and former 118er Tommy, portrayed by Lou Ferigno Jr. This moment of realization came after Buck struggled with feelings of jealousy over Tommy's budding relationship with Eddie, played by Ryan Guzman. Reflecting on the episode, Stark revealed that the groundwork for this storyline had been laid over multiple seasons, although it may not have been clear to viewers.
Stark shared his thoughts on Buck's journey moving forward, stating, "Certainly for somebody finding this in their 30s, they'd be questioning, right? 'What does this mean?' 'Who am I?' 'What about all these things that I thought to be true of myself?' And so there's some reckoning to deal with in the next episode." He mentioned Buck leaning on his closest loved ones for support and navigating the process of self-discovery while maintaining the essence of what makes him the best version of himself.
Fans can catch 9-1-1 Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, eagerly anticipating the continued exploration of Buck's bisexuality and the impact it will have on his character's development.
