Cardoza, currently appearing in The Notebook, took to social media to reveal that he was robbed at a Dunkin' Donuts in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood of Hamilton Heights. Meanwhile, Stuhlbarg was targeted in a random attack near Central Park on the Upper East Side.
Cardoza recounted the harrowing incident in an Instagram Story post, stating that the robber had "simulated a firearm" while demanding money. Initially, the encounter began with a simple request for a dollar, but it quickly escalated. Cardoza, unable to provide cash, offered to buy the man lunch, but this only seemed to further provoke him. Following the incident, the assailant attempted to use Cardoza's credit card multiple times in local establishments along 145th Street.
In response to the incident, Cardoza emphasized the need for caution and awareness among residents of the area. He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends and fans, reminding everyone that such incidents unfortunately occur more frequently than expected in New York City.
In a separate incident, Stuhlbarg was unexpectedly struck by a thrown rock near Central Park on Sunday evening. Acting swiftly, Stuhlbarg pursued the assailant, identified as 27-year-old Xavier Israel, for several blocks until police intervened and apprehended him. Israel has since been charged with assault.
Despite reassurances from New York City police officials that major crimes are declining, recent high-profile incidents, including subway shovings and an attack on two police officers in Times Square, have raised concerns and garnered attention. These incidents have ignited a growing sense of unease about the overall safety and security in the city.
Nevertheless, both Cardoza and Stuhlbarg remain determined to carry on with their respective Broadway performances. Cardoza even made it to yesterday's matinee of The Notebook, displaying resilience in the face of adversity. The theater community and their colleagues have shown unwavering support, reassuring audiences that Stuhlbarg will perform as scheduled in the first preview performance of Patriots at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
As these incidents continue to grab headlines, it is crucial for authorities to address the rising concerns about crime in New York City and take necessary steps to ensure the safety of its residents and visitors alike.
