According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, it seems that wide receiver Tee Higgins will be hitting the free-agent market in 2025. The Cincinnati Bengals and Higgins have not reached a long-term deal before the July 15 deadline, as reported by a source.
Higgins, who was franchise-tagged by the Bengals, will play on the tag for the 2024 season, just as expected. On June 17, he officially signed the franchise tag, temporarily resolving the offseason dispute that included a trade request from the wideout and his subsequent absence from the team's offseason program.
Selected in the second round of the 2020 draft, Higgins has proven to be a valuable weapon for quarterback Joe Burrow when he is healthy, especially in the postseason. Throughout his four seasons, he has accumulated impressive statistics, recording 257 receptions for 3,648 yards and 24 touchdowns. However, the 2023 season was challenging for Higgins due to an adverse campaign that saw the loss of Burrow in Week 11, and he also missed five games due to injury. These factors contributed to his worst statistical year, with only 42 receptions for 656 yards and five touchdowns.
Under the one-year franchise tag deal, Higgins is set to earn approximately $21.8 million. However, his long-term future and financial security will likely be determined in the upcoming offseason. At this point, it remains uncertain whether Higgins will continue his career with the Cincinnati Bengals or find a new team in free agency.
As the 2025 free agency approaches, the Bengals and Higgins may have further negotiations to secure a deal that satisfies both parties. Until then, fans and analysts will eagerly await updates on Higgins' future in the NFL.
