In an eagerly awaited announcement, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor revealed the team's first depth chart for the upcoming 2024 season. While many coaches downplay the significance of this initial draft, showcasing the seniority of certain players, it still provides a glimpse into the starting lineup.

On the offensive side, veteran right tackle Trent Brown, experienced running back Zack Moss, and tight end Drew Sample claimed the starting positions. Trenton Irwin secured the role as the third wide receiver, following an intense competition with Andrei Iosivas and Charlie Jones.

The defensive lineup displayed DJ Turner as the starting cornerback, partnering with standout cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt. The free-agent safety tandem of Vonn Bell and Geno Stone took over the helm from Dax Hill and Jordan Battle. Hill, who transitioned to cornerback during the offseason, finds himself listed behind Turner. Meanwhile, rookie Josh Newton impressed during practice, earning a spot with the third-team cornerbacks.

Jordan Battle assumed the backup position for Bell, who brings invaluable experience with 122 NFL games under his belt. Sheldon Rankins, a nine-year veteran in his first season as a Bengal, joined forces with B.J. Hill at defensive tackle, forming a formidable duo.

Looking ahead to their preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Paycor Stadium, Coach Taylor expressed his intention to play many of his offensive starters, thanks to a healthy Joe Burrow at quarterback. This decision marks a departure from his previous approach since the 2021 season.

Despite the buzz surrounding first-round pick Amarius Mims, it was Trent Brown, a Super Bowl champion with a decade-long career, who claimed the starting right tackle spot. Moss, entering his fifth season and playing for his third team, earned the starting position at running back, with second-year Chase Brown in reserve.

In the wide receiver room, Irwin's experience and crucial catches for playoff teams elevated him to the third receiver spot, though it remains a highly contested position with his sophomore counterparts. Taking over as the new tight end, Mike Gesicki, with seven years of NFL experience and multiple seasons of over 50 catches, will provide depth behind Sample.

The special teams department saw the arrival of college free agent Austin McNamara, who secured the second spot behind incumbent punter Brad Robbins. Recent addition Ryan Rehkow landed next on the list.

As for the safety position, Tycen Anderson, returning from ACL surgery and entering his third season, emerged as Geno Stone's backup ahead of a promising group of rookies.

The depth chart release has sparked excitement amongst fans as they eagerly await the Bengals' preseason opener on Saturday. With a healthy roster and an array of experienced starters, expectations are high for the team as they embark on the 2024 NFL season.
