In a recent outing with his daughter Seraphina, actor Ben Affleck, 52, appeared visibly distressed, possibly influenced by the ongoing divorce proceedings initiated by his ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez. The outing took place at an AMC movie theater in Marina Del Rey, an upscale neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. Affleck, known for his role in "The Accountant," was seen clutching his cellphone throughout the evening, seemingly preoccupied.
Earlier divorce documents filed by Jennifer Lopez revealed her intention to drop Affleck's last name, which they had adopted during their Las Vegas wedding on July 16, 2022. The news of the divorce seemed to have taken a toll on Affleck's demeanor, as he appeared serious and distant, failing to engage with the teenagers present during the outing.
Despite Affleck's somber mood, his 15-year-old daughter, Seraphina, appeared to be in good spirits, chatting with friends and eagerly following her father into the movie theater. However, it was evident that Affleck was wearing the weight of the divorce proceedings on his face, sporting a stressed expression.
For the outing, Affleck opted for casual attire, donning beige cargo pants, a gray T-shirt, and an unbuttoned blue button-up shirt. Matching his casual ensemble, he chose a pair of Nike sneakers and carried his phone in one hand while clutching his car keys in the other.
Jennifer Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on August 20, strategically choosing the anniversary of their second wedding ceremony to file. Citing irreconcilable differences, Lopez listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024, indicating that they had been living apart even before breakup rumors circulated in May.
The news of their split comes after reports of Affleck moving out of their shared mansion four months ago and into a rental home. Throughout the summer, the couple was rarely seen together, missing important celebrations such as Lopez's 55th birthday and their wedding anniversary.
Lopez is reportedly devastated by the end of their relationship, especially since she believed this would finally be her happily-ever-after following several failed marriages. The singer-actress had previously spoken about the heartbreak she experienced after their 2004 breakup, confessing that she felt like she was going to die.
Regarding their divorce, it is yet unclear if the couple had a prenuptial agreement in place. According to sources, the exes did not sign one before getting married, potentially meaning that all their assets from their short-lived marriage could be considered communal property.
Despite their separation, Lopez and Affleck still have a joint project together. Their film, "Unstoppable," produced by Affleck and Matt Damon's Artists Equity company, is set to premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival next month. While Affleck will not be attending the event, sources reveal that Lopez and Damon, who is also Affleck's close friend, will be present on the red carpet.
As the divorce proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how Affleck and Lopez navigate their professional collaboration while formally ending their personal relationship.
