Beloved Vancouver Teacher Returns Home After Suffering Traumatic Brain Injury During Surgery
After months of intense rehabilitation, Scott Munro, a beloved Vancouver teacher, has finally returned home following a traumatic brain injury he suffered during a routine shoulder surgery. Munro's family believes that the injury was caused by unchecked oxygen levels during the procedure.
According to Munro's daughter, Katherine, the elective orthopedic outpatient surgery took place in September of last year. Unfortunately, Munro did not wake up for several days after the surgery. It was later revealed that he experienced a loss of oxygen to his brain during the procedure. Doctors have diagnosed him with a hypoxic-anoxic brain injury, which occurs when the brain does not receive enough oxygen.
The injury left Munro in a coma, and he spent a month in the intensive care unit. During this time, Munro's wife, Katrina, expressed her concerns about the surgery, stating that his oxygen levels were not monitored for a period of four minutes.
Over the past eight months, Munro has undergone extensive rehabilitation in Chicago and Omaha. He has been relearning basic skills such as walking, talking, and performing daily tasks necessary for independent living. Despite the challenges, Munro has shown progress in his recovery. His daughter, Katherine, shared updates on his progress in January, mentioning improvements in his speech, mobility, and self-care abilities.
On Wednesday, Munro received a heartwarming welcome as he arrived at the Portland International Airport. Family and friends lined up to show their support, bringing tears of joy to Munro's eyes. He expressed his gratitude for the love and encouragement from his loved ones and the opportunity to reunite with them in person.
Munro will be residing in an assisted living community temporarily while his home is modified to meet his specific needs. The family's emotions are running high as they feel a sense of completion and reunion after months of hardship and uncertainty.
The incident has prompted Munro's family to question the circumstances surrounding the surgery and demand answers. They firmly believe that something went wrong in the operating room that day and are determined to find out what exactly transpired.
As Munro continues his journey towards recovery, the community rallies around him, offering support and encouragement. The story of his resilience and determination serves as a reminder of the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
