**ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit Mourns the Loss of Beloved Dog Ben**

Kirk Herbstreit, known for his role as an analyst on ESPN's "College GameDay," has announced the passing of his cherished golden retriever, Ben. The news of Ben's death has left many of his fans, who followed his journey across various college campuses, deeply saddened.

For the past two years, Ben, a certified emotional service animal, became a familiar and beloved figure in the college football world. With his friendly demeanor, he often stole the spotlight, bringing joy to numerous fans around the country. Regularly seen on set during live broadcasts, Ben also accompanied Herbstreit on his "Thursday Night Football" duties with Prime Video.

Herbstreit shared the heartbreaking news on social media, revealing that Ben succumbed to cancer. "This is really hard to write but so many of you have loved and cared about Ben that I wanted to let you know," Herbstreit wrote, alongside a touching photo of himself with Ben. He explained that they had discovered the cancer had spread throughout Ben's organs, and there was no other option but to say goodbye.

Ben had been a part of Herbstreit's life for a decade and fell ill earlier this year. Diagnosed with leukemia in March, Ben underwent surgery in July. Describing Ben, Herbstreit said, "I've had dogs my whole life but Ben was 1 on 1. He was smart, loving, gentle, patient, inquisitive, and welcoming to all. Always a big smile and a soft tail wag." He added that Ben was his constant companion, both at home and on the road for work, making his loss particularly difficult.

In late October, Ben received his second chemotherapy injection, but his condition only worsened. "One of the hardest things I've gone through in my life. Ben is my best friend and companion. I love him with all of my heart," Herbstreit expressed earlier this week.

Ben first captured widespread affection in 2023 when Herbstreit brought him along on his travels. Reflecting on the joy Ben brought to others, Herbstreit remarked, "There is just something different about him. I'm just happy people love his happiness and it makes them have a better day." Ben's presence was so significant that he often received his own press credentials, granting him coveted field access alongside Herbstreit.

Since the news of Ben's passing, tributes have poured in, celebrating the happiness he brought to both Herbstreit and countless fans.
