### Beloved Browns Announcer Jim Donovan Passes Away at 68

Jim Donovan, the cherished radio play-by-play announcer for the Cleveland Browns and a prominent face in TV sports for over forty years, has passed away at the age of 68.

Donovan, who retired from his illustrious broadcast career earlier this year, had stepped down from his game-day duties due to his battle with cancer. His retirement from WKYC was officially announced on May 30, and he delivered his final broadcast as a sports anchor on June 10, marking the end of an era for Browns fans. Donovan had been the iconic voice behind Cleveland's games since the team's re-establishment in 1999.

"This is an incredibly difficult day for us and the entire Cleveland Browns organization," said Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam in an official statement. They praised Donovan's unparalleled impact over his 25 years as the Voice of the Browns, noting his dedication and the profound legacy he leaves behind. "He will be greatly missed," they added, extending their condolences to his wife Cheryl, daughter Meghan, and all those who had the privilege to know him.

A Boston native, Donovan, affectionately known as "Jimmy," quickly became a beloved figure among Cleveland sports fans, admired for his enthusiasm, sense of humor, and meticulous professionalism. Despite his illness, he was inducted into the Browns' Legends Club and the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame; however, he was too unwell to attend the ceremonies.

In August, when he had to step down, Donovan penned a heartfelt letter to Browns fans, thanking them for their unwavering support. "I have called Browns games for 25 years. Not a day has gone by when I haven't paused and been so proud to be 'The Voice of the Browns,'" he wrote, expressing his deep gratitude for the support during his health struggles.

Donovan's battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia began in 2000, and despite undergoing bone marrow surgery in 2011, he continued his passion for sports broadcasting. His relentless spirit even saw him return to the WKYC broadcast booth last fall after a treatment hiatus, just in time to call the Browns' late-season push to the playoffs.

A Boston University graduate, Donovan arrived in Cleveland in 1985 and reported on the city's three professional sports teams. His illustrious career also included national network assignments, notably being part of NBC's coverage team for the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics.

Jim Donovan's dedication and love for the sport and the community have left an indelible mark on Cleveland, ensuring his memory will remain in the hearts of many.
