A recent outbreak of bed bugs has plagued some of Las Vegas' most frequented tourist resorts over the last few months. Inspectors from the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) were summoned to investigate the situation at Encore, the Venetian, the Mirage, and the Excalibur Hotel and Casino, according to health records reported by 8 News Now.

The unwelcome discovery of bed bugs at these establishments occurred from September to December, affecting only four rooms collectively. In December, a live bed bug was uncovered in a guest room at Encore by one of the hotel's specially trained bed bug-sniffing dogs, prompting the immediate removal of the room from service.

While the Nevada Resort Association deemed these incidents as "extremely rare and isolated occurrences," they emphasized that members are taking swift action to address the situation in compliance with health and safety standards. The association noted that the exact origins of the bed bugs remain unclear, but all the affected hotels lie within a 4-mile stretch along the Las Vegas Strip.

This isn't the first time Las Vegas has battled a bed bug infestation. Previously, between 2022 and 2023, bed bugs were identified at seven other prominent hotels in the area, including Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Circus Circus, Palazzo, Tropicana, MGM Grand, and Sahara.

With the recent resurgence of bed bugs in Vegas, tourists with plans to stay at these popular resorts may need to reconsider their bookings and take precautions to avoid potential encounters with these blood-sucking pests.
