The Chicago Bears have bolstered their pass rush by acquiring linebacker Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks in a trade agreement. In exchange, the Bears sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Seahawks, as confirmed by official sources.

Taylor, a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, missed his rookie season due to a leg fracture that required surgery. However, since the 2021 season, the talented edge rusher has made his mark with 21.5 sacks in 49 games, including 13 starts. His impressive sack production caught the attention of Bears coach Matt Eberflus, who expressed his excitement about adding Taylor to the team.

According to Eberflus, Taylor's skillset perfectly aligns with the Bears' defensive scheme. Known for his pass-rushing abilities, Taylor brings a relentless effort, style, and disposition that matches what the team is looking for. The Bears' pursuit of an edge rusher was highlighted in the recent episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks," where they were originally planning to acquire Matthew Judon from the New England Patriots. However, negotiations for an extension fell through, leading the Bears to pivot and ultimately secure Taylor's services.

Taylor's role in Chicago is expected to focus primarily on pass-rushing situations, given some concerns about his ability to defend the run. The Seahawks, who were unwilling to pay his $3.116 million base salary for such a situational role, opted not to tender him as a restricted free agent. Instead, they signed him to a one-year deal worth $3.136 million, including a $20,000 signing bonus.

During the 2023 season, Taylor proved his worth on the field, appearing in all 17 games for the Seahawks and starting five of them. He contributed 5.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, and eight quarterback hits while playing approximately 44% of the team's defensive snaps.

The addition of Darrell Taylor comes as the Bears seek to improve their pass-rushing capabilities after a lackluster performance last season. Chicago finished with the lowest sack percentage (4.64%) and the second-fewest sacks (30) in the NFL. The team's defensive line has shown promise throughout training camp, but acquiring Taylor adds valuable depth and increases their ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks.

While the trade marks an important move for the Bears, it is also noteworthy for the Seahawks, who have been active in the trade market. Just a day prior, they traded cornerback Michael Jackson to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for rookie inside linebacker Michael Barrett. The Seahawks now have approximately $8.5 million in salary cap space, with Taylor's signing bonus being the only remaining financial obligation.

As the future unfolds, Bears fans eagerly anticipate the impact that Darrell Taylor will have on the team's pass rush. With his proven ability to disrupt quarterbacks, Taylor's addition looks to be a significant step towards strengthening Chicago's defense for the upcoming season.
