Officials in Weaverville, North Carolina, have confirmed that two ducks found at Lake Louise were infected with Avian Influenza. The testing was conducted on Jan. 26 after concerns were raised by viewers about the number of ducks dying at the lake. Despite initial considerations to test the water, it was clarified that the situation was not related to wildlife. Weaverville Town Manager Selena Coffey stated that there hasn't been a decline in ducks at the lake and reminded the public to avoid feeding the birds, which could contribute to health issues. District 9 Biologist Justin McVey assured that the Avian Flu poses no risk to humans in contact with infected waterfowl. However, the disease can be deadly for domestic poultry and other waterfowl. Waterfowl infected with Avian Flu may not show symptoms but can spread the disease during migrations through fecal material or oral discharges.
