A suspect has been arrested in connection with the case of 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham, whose body was discovered near the Trinity River in Livingston, Texas, after she went missing last week. Don Steven McDougal, a friend of Audrii's father, was named by investigators as a person of interest. McDougal was the last person to see Audrii before she disappeared and had been reportedly dropped her off at her bus stop in the past.

The Polk County Sheriff office confirmed that McDougal, who resides in a camper behind Audrii's home, has been arrested on an unrelated aggravated assault charge. McDougal has a criminal history that includes enticing a minor in 2008. Authorities are preparing an arrest warrant against him, and he will be charged with capital murder in connection to Audrii's death.

The search for Audrii was extensive, with investigators gathering information from various sources to locate her. The Trinity River Authority was contacted to assist in slowing water outflow from a nearby reservoir, which eventually led search teams to discover Audrii's body.

The medical examiner is currently working to determine the cause of Audrii's death. An Amber Alert was issued when Audrii went missing after failing to board her school bus on the morning of February 15. District Attorney Shelly Bush-Sitton confirmed the pending arrest warrant against McDougal for capital murder.
