Cardinals Bolster Roster with Versatile Draft Picks

In an effort to strengthen their roster, the Arizona Cardinals made strategic moves during the 2024 NFL draft. With their selections, the Cardinals addressed key positions and added depth to their team.

The Cardinals kicked off the draft by selecting wide receiver Harrison, the No. 1 overall prospect on the big board. Harrison is highly regarded for his clean projections and impressive performance over the past two seasons. Despite a dip in quarterback play, Harrison stood out as one of the top receivers in the league, generating over 1.0 PFF Wins Above Average (WAA).

Next, the Cardinals focused on improving their defensive line by picking Robinson. Known for his strength, Robinson showcased versatility by excelling on both the interior and the edge. He tallied an impressive overall PFF grade of 83.1 and recorded nine sacks. Robinson's contributions on both run defense and pass rushing made him a valuable addition to the Cardinals' front line.

The Cardinals continued to bolster their defense by selecting Melton, a cornerback with great potential. Melton boasted a stellar performance during his college career, allowing just a 65.7 passer rating into his coverage in 2023. His versatility in playing inside and outside makes him a valuable asset as a slot cornerback.

In addressing their offensive needs, the Cardinals added running back Benson, the second running back off the board. Benson brings dynamic playmaking abilities, evidenced by his impressive PFF grade of 91.3 over the last two seasons. He forced an astounding 124 missed tackles on 310 carries since 2022, making him a force to be reckoned with in the Cardinals' backfield.

The Cardinals also focused on strengthening their offensive line by selecting Adams, a versatile player who is expected to excel as a guard. Adams displayed solid run-blocking skills, with an impressive run-blocking grade of 81.1 over the past two seasons. While he needs to improve his pass-blocking, his potential and athleticism make him a valuable addition to the Cardinals' line.

Reiman, a late riser in the pre-draft process, caught the attention of scouts with his impressive performance at the Shrine Bowl and NFL scouting combine. With a strong skill set as a run-blocker and great hands, Reiman adds depth to the Cardinals' receiving corps.

Arizona continued to enhance their secondary by selecting Jones, a cornerback known for his physical playstyle. Jones may be ranked lower on the big board, but his impressive passer rating of 18.1 on throws into his coverage showcases his ability to stifle opposing quarterbacks. With the need to fill holes in their roster, Jones brings toughness to the Cardinals' defense.

Dadrion-Demerson, a safety with a knack for creating turnovers, brings his ball-hawking skills to the Cardinals. His 10 interceptions since 2021 rank among the top in Power Five safeties. Opposing quarterbacks struggled with a passer rating of 58.4 when throwing into his coverage, making him a valuable addition to the Cardinals' defensive backfield.

On the defensive line, the Cardinals added Thomas, a player with extensive college experience. With an impressive record of 153 quarterback pressures and 22 sacks, Thomas adds another solid piece to the Cardinals' defensive line overhaul.

To round out their draft, the Cardinals selected Jones, an offensive lineman with experience and improvement throughout his college career. With impressive stats and a solid PFF grade of 77.8 in 2023, Jones adds depth and competition to the Cardinals' offensive line.

Lastly, the Cardinals picked Palmer, a productive wide receiver from UAB with a reputation for making big plays. With impressive yards per route run and a low drop rate, Palmer is set to contribute to the Cardinals' receiving corps.

Arizona made strategic moves during the draft to address various needs on both sides of the ball. With an influx of talented players, the Cardinals are primed to compete in the upcoming season and make an impact in the league.
