TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is currently in negotiations with Fanatics, a sports memorabilia company, for a lucrative deal worth over $1 million, according to an unnamed source familiar with the matter.
Harrison, who has chosen not to sign the NFLPA's group licensing agreement, has instead pursued an individual agreement with Fanatics for autographs, signed trading cards, game-worn apparel, and other marketing opportunities. The deal was initially signed by Harrison before his final season at Ohio State.
The source revealed that Harrison is seeking to renegotiate the agreement, aiming for a higher compensation. He is reportedly using his decision not to sign the group licensing agreement as leverage in the negotiations. By abstaining from signing the NFLPA agreement, Harrison is unable to participate in several marketing opportunities, such as having Nike produce his Cardinals jersey for sale through various outlets, including Fanatics. Additionally, he is ineligible to appear in the popular Madden NFL video game.
Sports pundit Pat McAfee mentioned on his show that Harrison had turned down a previous offer from Fanatics for a "card deal" when he was still in his sophomore year of college. McAfee highlighted that the rookie receiver's value has significantly increased since then, and he expects the negotiations to resolve amicably.
In the meantime, Harrison has launched his own website called The Official Harrison Collection, where he is selling signed memorabilia. The site currently offers various items, including photographs priced between $99.99 and $149, a jersey at $299.99, and a helmet priced up to $399.99. The website promises that it is the only authorized platform to purchase signed memorabilia directly from Harrison and teases the forthcoming availability of Cardinals-specific items.
In addition to the potential deal with Fanatics, Harrison has secured an endorsement agreement with New Balance and recently appeared in a Head and Shoulders advertising campaign.
As negotiations between Marvin Harrison Jr. and Fanatics continue, fans eagerly await the resolution, hoping to see the talented rookie's memorabilia become widely available in the near future.
