In a much-anticipated NFL debut, wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., selected by the Arizona Cardinals as the fourth pick in the 2024 draft, saw limited action on the field. Despite high expectations surrounding him, Harrison only received three targets during the Cardinals' 34-28 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, however, defended the decision, expressing that it was not his responsibility to force targets to Harrison. Murray emphasized that his role was to follow the reads dictated by offensive coordinator Drew Petzing's system.

"As a quarterback, obviously, you're going through your reads," Murray explained, as reported by Craig Morgan of PHNX. "Sometimes the ball goes to him, but that's not my job. I have a sense and a feel for guys when they don't get the ball and when they are getting the ball, but I leave that up to Drew. He tells me, 'Don't worry about that type of stuff. Just keep playing your game and get the ball to where the ball is supposed to go.'"

Although Harrison finished his NFL debut with just one catch for four yards, it was wideout Greg Dortch who led the Cardinals' receiving corps with six catches. Meanwhile, Trey McBride received the most targets, with nine passes thrown his way.

Murray's performance was steady, as he completed 21 of 31 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. Despite a promising start to the game, with the Cardinals leading by seven points in the second quarter, they struggled to recover from three touchdowns by the Bills in the second half.

It remains to be seen how the Cardinals will approach utilizing Harrison Jr. in future games, as both coaching staff and fans eagerly await his development on the field. For now, Murray's trust in Petzing's system suggests a strategic approach to offensive playcalling that prioritizes overall team performance over individual player targets.
