In a surprising move, Apple has released iOS 18 beta 7 to developers, casting doubts on the traditional beta 8 release usually expected in the last week of August. Mark Gurman's recent post on X has sparked speculation about the future of iOS 18's beta schedule, leaving developers and enthusiasts curious about what lies ahead.

According to Gurman, the latest iOS 18 beta release is likely to be feature complete, with the exception of functionalities tied to new hardware. While Gurman's sources are known for their reliability, the post itself lacks clarity. There are two possible interpretations: either today's beta marks the final release until the debut of the much-anticipated iPhone 16, or there will be no new features introduced in future betas leading up to the iPhone event.

It is common for Apple to introduce the release candidate (RC) of its operating systems alongside its September iPhone event. This RC build typically incorporates features specific to the latest iPhone models. However, the exact date for this year's event remains unknown. With Tuesday, September 10 being a strong possibility, there is also a chance that it could occur a week earlier on Wednesday, September 4.

If the iPhone event takes place in the first week of September, then iOS 18 beta 7 being the final release would align with Apple's typical timeline, which usually includes a 1-2 week gap between the last beta and the iPhone event. However, if the event occurs on September 10, there is a potential for one more beta - beta 8 - next week. Nevertheless, Gurman's source suggests that no new features should be anticipated in that release.

Today's iOS 18 developer beta is expected to be the last significant release with noteworthy changes. As Apple enthusiasts eagerly await the official announcement of the September iPhone event, all eyes will be on Apple to see if any surprises await in the final versions of iOS 18. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving story.
