In a move to allow non-developers to preview upcoming software updates, Apple has rolled out the first public betas of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. These beta versions are now available for download to testers who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program. Notably, these updates mark the introduction of Apple Intelligence features, offering users a glimpse into the future of Apple's technology offerings.

Among the standout features showcased in the public betas are significant enhancements in privacy, user-experience, and productivity tools. The Writing Tools feature allows for improved text selection, editing, spell checking, and even text summarization across various applications. Additionally, Siri has been revamped with a new design that includes a more interactive element through the Type to Siri feature, enabling users to engage with the virtual assistant without speaking commands.

Users of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 can now leverage the AI-powered framework to benefit from smart replies in Messages and Mail applications, as well as a new Clean Up tool integrated into the Photos app. This tool aids in removing unwanted objects from images, enhancing the overall user experience in managing their media content. The updates also bring forward features such as Memory Movie in Photos for creating dynamic slideshows based on text descriptions, further enriching the creative capabilities of Apple device users.

Furthermore, the public betas introduce innovative functionalities like phone call recording and transcription, with recorded calls seamlessly saved in the Notes app for easy access. While summarizing phone calls from these transcriptions is delineated as an Apple Intelligence feature, the broader spectrum of enhancements aims to offer a more immersive and intuitive user experience on Apple devices. Such additions echo Apple's commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and enhancing the functionality of its product ecosystem.
