**Alabama A&M Retracts Announcement of Player's Death, Confirms Medrick Burnett Jr. in Stable Condition**
In a surprising turn of events, Alabama A&M has withdrawn its earlier announcement regarding the death of football player Medrick Burnett Jr., confirming instead that the redshirt freshman is alive and in stable condition.
Burnett, who plays as a linebacker, suffered a head injury during an October game against Alabama State and has been receiving medical care at UAB Hospital. On Tuesday evening, the school's athletic department, informed by a family member, announced Burnett's purported death to the public. However, the following day, a hospital representative clarified that Burnett remains in stable condition.
"We express our immediate regret for disseminating false information; however, we hold complete joy in knowing that Medrick remains in stable condition," the school stated, acknowledging the mistake.
Originally from Lakewood, California, Burnett embarked on his college football career at Grambling State University in Louisiana before transferring to Alabama A&M. According to the school's athletic website, he has participated in seven games and recorded five tackles, including three against Austin Peay.
In light of Burnett's injury, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up, raising over $40,000 as of Thursday morning. "Please pray he is having a tough time but we are holding on til the very end. God give us strength so we can keep the faith," the GoFundMe page appeals.
