Actress Christine Lakin recently revealed a theory as to why she was reportedly let go from the hit series "Fuller House." Lakin, who was set to appear in a recurring role on the Netflix reboot of the beloved show, claimed in an interview on the "How Rude, Tanneritos" podcast that her firing may have been a result of her involvement in a satirical video mocking star Candace Cameron Bure's brother, Kirk Cameron, years ago.
Lakin recalled her excitement about joining the show after a positive meeting with "Fuller House" creator Jeff Franklin. However, just two days before the table read, she received a call from her manager informing her that the table read had been delayed due to script revisions. The next day, she received another call, telling her that she had been let go from the show, with the reason cited as a character rewrite.
Confused and disappointed, Lakin reached out to one of the show's writers for an explanation, but the writer was not aware of the specific reason for her firing. Reflecting on the situation, Lakin believes that her involvement in a "Funny or Die" video from seven years prior, where she and other former child actors humorously criticized Kirk Cameron's controversial statements about the LGBTQ+ community, may have played a role in her dismissal.
In the video, which garnered attention at the time, Cameron had made comments regarding homosexuality and same-sex marriages that were deemed damaging. Lakin clarified that the video was meant as satire, but wonders if it had created some animosity that resurfaced years later, ultimately influencing her presence on the show.
Lakin further revealed that the role she was initially cast for ultimately went to her friend, Virginia Williams. Williams portrayed C.J. Hargenberger in recurring and guest roles on "Fuller House" during Seasons 2 to 5. Lakin expressed her disappointment about the situation, emphasizing that it was a "bummer."
The article notes that attempts have been made to reach out to reps for both Kirk Cameron, who caused controversy with his remarks, and Candace Cameron Bure, who played a leading role in the "Full House" franchise, for comments on Lakin's claims.
Cameron Bure herself has faced backlash for her personal beliefs, most recently when she announced her departure from the Hallmark Channel in favor of the Great American Family network, which she stated focuses less on featuring same-sex couples in its content. These comments led to criticism from fellow celebrities, including Jodie Sweetin, who also starred in "Fuller House."
The "Fuller House" reboot brought back many original cast members from the original "Full House," including John Stamos, Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, and Lori Loughlin, who made recurring appearances. The show aired on Netflix from 2016 to 2020.
While the exact reason behind Lakin's departure from "Fuller House" remains uncertain, the actress has found herself speculating that her past satirical involvement may have played a part in the decision, leaving fans to wonder about the complexities behind the scenes of their favorite show.
