In the highly anticipated trailer for the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, eagle-eyed fans caught a glimpse of what appeared to be actor Jeffrey Jones on a headstone during a funeral scene. However, a representative for Jones has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor will not be appearing in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Known for his comedic talent and scene-stealing performances, Jones, 77, has been a memorable presence in numerous films throughout the 1980s. Some of his notable roles include Emperor Joseph II in the 1984 film Amadeus and Ed Rooney, the principal in the 1986 classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off. His collaboration with director Tim Burton extended to Beetlejuice, Ed Wood in 1994, and Sleepy Hollow in 1999.
Though fans speculated that Jones might make an appearance in the Beetlejuice sequel, his character's name, Charles, was laid to rest in the original film. However, the sequel, set to follow the misadventures of the Maitlands in the afterlife, left the possibility of his participation open.
In recent years, Jones portrayed real-life newspaperman A.W. Merrick in HBO's Deadwood, with his presence reduced in the 2019 movie adaptation amid a more sensitive, post-#MeToo climate.
Fans of the Beetlejuice franchise had eagerly awaited any news about the potential return of their beloved characters in the sequel. Jones' brief appearance in the trailer sparked speculation about his involvement, but fans will now have to wait for further updates regarding the cast of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
As anticipation for the film continues to build, fans can rest assured that the Beetlejuice sequel will still bring back the whimsical and darkly comedic essence that made the original a cult classic.
