**Jets' Aaron Rodgers Expected to Play Through Injury for Crucial Contest Against Bills**
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is dealing with a low ankle sprain but is anticipated to be on the field for next Monday night's game against the Buffalo Bills. This upcoming clash is critical for both teams as they vie for a share of the first place in the AFC East. "All the preliminary stuff says he'll be fine," head coach Robert Saleh stated on Monday morning, confirming that Rodgers will undergo further evaluation.
Rodgers, who is 40 years old, endured a rough outing on Sunday during the Jets' 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. The seasoned quarterback was sacked three times and took 11 hits, accumulating a total of 25 hits over the past two games, both resulting in losses. In the third quarter, Rodgers injured his left ankle when his leg got caught under a pile, causing his body to bend backward, yet he continued playing.
Reflecting on his physical state, Rodgers remarked half-jokingly that various body parts "made some noises" during the game. The previous week also saw him suffering from a swollen left knee. Coach Saleh emphasized the challenges, pointing out, "The reality is, if you throw the ball over 50 times, the quarterback is going to get hit. Period."
The Jets struggled significantly against the Vikings, unable to establish a running game and hampered by two early interceptions thrown by Rodgers, leading to a 17-0 deficit. The four-time MVP had to drop back 57 times out of 71 plays, largely due to the blitz-heavy strategy employed by the Vikings. Despite his efforts, completing 29 of 54 passes for 244 yards, Rodgers’ third interception of the game ended their final drive in the last minute, falling short of a comeback.
Currently, the Jets' offense is in turmoil, with only two touchdowns across the last two games. Saleh deflected the blame from the offensive line, noting, "We're just not putting ourselves in position to be efficient and play football." Highlighting the intense pressure from formidable defenses, Saleh added, "We basically fell into the teeth of their defense."
Following Sunday's games, the Jets find themselves ranked 22nd in scoring with Rodgers placed 20th in Total QBR at 48.8. Despite the setbacks and a 2-3 record, they remain just one game behind the 3-2 Bills in the division. Saleh has expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to turn things around with no planned changes to the offensive strategy, and Nathaniel Hackett will continue his role as the play caller.
In other injury news for the Jets, nickelback Michael Carter II will be evaluated for a hamstring injury sustained during pregame warmups, which limited him to a single defensive snap before he exited the game. The upcoming game against the Bills at MetLife Stadium presents a pivotal moment for the Jets as they aim to rectify their offensive struggles and vie for divisional standing.
