**49ers Prepare for Chiefs Showdown with Roster Updates Amid Injury Challenges**
The San Francisco 49ers are gearing up for their anticipated clash with the Kansas City Chiefs, but they will face some challenges without key players. In his Friday press conference, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed significant updates regarding the team's roster and injury status.
Among the positive news, rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall is set to return to practice next week. San Francisco's No. 31 overall pick in the April draft, Pearsall, has been sidelined since he was shot in the chest on August 31 during an attempted robbery. His return marks a step forward for the 49ers' offense.
However, the team will still be without star running back Christian McCaffrey, who remains out of practice. McCaffrey has not played at all in the 2024 season due to calf tightness and bilateral Achilles tendinitis. He was placed on injured reserve after Week 2, and there is still no clear timeline for his return.
Adding to their injury woes, running back Jordan Mason is also dealing with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. Shanahan noted that Mason is considered day-to-day. Other players on a day-to-day status include safety Malik Mustapha, who is nursing an ankle injury, and cornerback Charvarius Ward, who is dealing with a knee issue.
In addition, kicker Matthew Wright's condition is being closely monitored after he suffered a dislocated shoulder while attempting a tackle late in the game. Although the shoulder was quickly repositioned, the team is awaiting MRI results to determine the extent of the injury and the necessary recovery period.
Despite these challenges, the 49ers are preparing for their weekend mini-bye before they face the Chiefs in a highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl LVIII. The team remains optimistic but cautious as they navigate through these injury complications.
