Early Saturday morning, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Falls City, in Karnes County, Texas. The earthquake, the strongest of several reported this month, occurred just after midnight about three kilometers southeast of the city. Its depth was measured at 6.8 kilometers.
Residents in areas as far as 40-60 miles away, including San Antonio, reported feeling the earthquake. This event came after a series of smaller earthquakes in Karnes County earlier in the month, with magnitudes ranging from 3.2 to 3.9.
As of Saturday morning, no information on damage or injuries was available, but experts point out that a 4.7 magnitude earthquake is not considered particularly strong. This incident adds to a trend of increasing seismic activity in the region, with previous earthquakes reported in nearby counties such as Atascosa.
The United States Geological Survey continues to monitor the situation, as earthquakes in South Texas have become more common in recent years. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
