16-Year-Old Suspect Arrested for Assaulting Grandmother Outside Queens Church

A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested by the NYPD for allegedly shoving a grandmother down the stairs of a church in Queens, New York. The incident, which occurred outside St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on Sunday, was captured on surveillance video.

The victim, identified as 68-year-old Irene Tahliambouris, was violently pushed by the suspect, causing her to go airborne and land on her back. The security footage revealed the extent of her injuries, including a fractured skull and a black eye. In addition to the assault, the suspect reportedly stole $300 cash, her cellphone, and her car before fleeing the scene.

Tahliambouris' family expressed their devastation upon learning about the incident, stating, "We are devastated to even imagine the pain she is experiencing after being knocked off the stairs of the church, hitting the back of her head on the concrete while this vicious person, with no consideration for life, attacked her and took all her belongings and her car."

The victim's family also criticized the lax approach to law and order, highlighting a high recidivism rate as a contributing factor to such incidents. They urged for stronger accountability and stricter laws to deter criminals from targeting vulnerable individuals.

Following the arrest, the teenage suspect, whose name remains undisclosed due to their age, has been charged with robbery and assault. Meanwhile, Tahliambouris was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but has since stabilized.

In a statement, the victim's family expressed their gratitude for the community's support and prayers, stating, "We trust that the District Attorney and the NYPD will take all necessary actions to bring the perpetrator to justice and uphold the safety of our community."

Tahliambouris, known for her loving and helpful nature, has received an outpouring of support. Her son has initiated a verified GoFundMe campaign to assist her in rebuilding her life.

The shocking surveillance footage has drawn additional attention to the case, prompting calls for swift justice. The victim's family expressed their faith in the legal authorities to give the matter the attention it deserves and ensure the safety of the community.

As the investigation continues, the arrest of the suspect marks an initial step towards justice for Irene Tahliambouris, who is now in stable condition and showing signs of recognition.
