The Washington Commanders have made several significant roster moves as they prepare for their upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers. The team announced today that rookie running back Chris Rodriguez, Jr. has been placed on the injured reserve due to an ankle injury sustained in Sunday's loss to the New York Jets.

Rodriguez, who had been the team's third-string running back this season, had seen an increase in playing time over the past two weeks due to starter Brian Robinson's hamstring injury. However, with Robinson returning to practice on a limited basis yesterday, the Commanders will rely on their second-string back, Antonio Gibson, to carry the load in Sunday's home game against the 49ers, provided Robinson isn't ready.

In addition to placing Rodriguez on injured reserve, the Commanders have also made other adjustments to their roster. Last week, they signed Derrick Gore from the practice squad, adding depth to the running back position. They also have fullback/tight end Alex Armah available on the 53-man roster.

Furthermore, Washington has re-signed running back Jaret Patterson to the practice squad, and he could be elevated for Sunday's game if necessary. Jonathan Williams, who is still on the practice squad, suffered a concussion against the Jets, and there has been no update on his condition since reverting back to the practice squad.

The injury to Rodriguez created an opening on the roster, which the Commanders filled by activating linebacker De'Jon Harris from the Reserve/Injured List. Harris had been on injured reserve since November 22 due to a quad injury. He participated fully in practice yesterday after the team opened his 21-day practice window. Harris will bolster the linebacker group, which is missing starter Jamin Davis due to shoulder surgery and is currently being led by Cody Barton. Khaleke Hudson has also seen an increase in snaps recently, with Jabril Cox and David Mayo available for additional depth.

As Washington readies itself to face the 49ers, these roster moves will offer the team added versatility and options. While the loss of Chris Rodriguez, Jr. is a blow to their running back corps, the Commanders remain confident in the abilities of Antonio Gibson and their newly acquired depth at the position. The return of De'Jon Harris will undoubtedly provide a boost to the linebacker group and help fill the void left by Jamin Davis' absence.

The Commanders will look to make the necessary adjustments and capitalize on their remaining resources to secure a victory against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
