Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week following his standout performance in the team's victory over the Tennessee Titans. Lawrence's exceptional display on the field earned him this prestigious recognition.
In the game against the Titans, Lawrence showcased his skills by completing an impressive 24 out of 32 passes, resulting in a 75 percent completion rate. He recorded a total of 262 passing yards and threw two touchdowns. In addition, Lawrence exhibited his versatility by rushing the ball five times for 17 yards and scoring two rushing touchdowns, making him the first player in Jaguars history to achieve this feat in a single game.
Praising Lawrence's performance, Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor commended his control and decision-making throughout the game. Taylor stated, "I thought he played well. He was in control the whole game, knew where he wanted to go with the football, was able to move in the pocket and do some good things."
Lawrence's outstanding showing against the Titans translated into a high Quarterback Rating (QBR) of 90.8, which is the second-highest in his career. The quarterback's highest QBR to date was 95.9, achieved during the Jaguars' Week 2 victory against the Indianapolis Colts last season.
The recognition as AFC Offensive Player of the Week is not new to Lawrence, as he also received the honor last year in the Jaguars' Week 14 victory over the Titans, which marked the beginning of their remarkable playoff run to the AFC Divisional Round.
After a challenging rookie season plagued by controversies surrounding the team, Lawrence has exhibited significant improvement in his second season, under the leadership of head coach Doug Pederson. In his sophomore campaign, Lawrence has completed 68.1 percent of his passes, amassing 2,382 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions. While his scoring in the passing game may not match last year's numbers, Lawrence has been instrumental in helping the Jaguars secure victories against tough competition.
The Jaguars currently find themselves in a favorable position to reclaim the AFC South title, but they face a crucial challenge this weekend against the Houston Texans, who boast a 6-4 record. Having lost to the Texans earlier in the season, the Jaguars are determined to avoid a sweep by their division rivals, a feat they managed to achieve for the first time in several years last season.
With Lawrence's remarkable performance and leadership guiding the team, the Jaguars are hopeful of a successful campaign as they strive to secure the AFC South title once again.
