In a Monday noon press conference, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provided an update on the team's health following their disappointing 24-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Tomlin confirmed that quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a high ankle sprain during the game and underwent surgery earlier in the day. As a result, Pickett will be sidelined for the upcoming game against the New England Patriots.

Tomlin mentioned that Pickett's ankle injury was an aggravation of a preexisting condition that he had been dealing with prior to the game. Despite practicing fully throughout the previous week, Pickett's ankle injury was listed on the team's injury report. However, Tomlin expressed confidence that the injury would not be season-ending.

According to reports, Pickett underwent "tightrope" surgery for his high ankle sprain, a procedure previously performed on other NFL quarterbacks such as Tua Tagovailoa and Ryan Tannehill. Although no specific timetable was provided by Tomlin, it is expected that Pickett will miss approximately two to four weeks of action. The Steelers have decided against placing him on injured reserve, indicating their hope for an earlier return.

In addition to Pickett, Tomlin addressed the statuses of other injured players on the team. Offensive guard Isaac Seumalo, linebacker Elandon Roberts, and cornerback James Pierre are all listed as questionable for the upcoming game due to shoulder injuries and a groin injury, respectively. However, nose tackle Montravius Adams is expected to play against the Patriots despite an ankle injury.

Tomlin also mentioned the injury to free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who reportedly broke his left hand during the game but continued playing with a cast. Fitzpatrick expressed confidence that he would be able to participate in the upcoming game, and Tomlin echoed those sentiments.

The loss of Roberts during the game was cited by Tomlin as a significant obstacle, as his absence impacted the team's defensive communication during the Cardinals' 99-yard touchdown drive.

The Steelers will release their estimated injury report, with more updates expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. Ahead of their previous Thursday night game in Week Nine, the team held a walkthrough on Tuesday followed by a full practice on Wednesday.

Notably, Tomlin did not discuss the ankle injury sustained by T.J. Watt in Sunday's game. However, when asked later in the press conference, Tomlin indicated that the injury would not affect Watt's practice or his availability for the upcoming game.

The Steelers are set to face the New England Patriots on Thursday at 8:15 PM/EST, with backup quarterback Mason Rudolph likely to start in place of the injured Kenny Pickett.
