The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced the elevation of linebacker Myles Jack and safety Eric Rowe from the practice squad to the Active/Inactive Roster for Monday's Super Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium. Both players will then revert back to the practice squad following the game.
Jack, who signed with the practice squad on November 20, has been elevated for several games this season, including a standout performance against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16, where he recorded a sack. The linebacker also started against the Seattle Seahawks and the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17 and Week 18, respectively. In these three games with the Steelers, Jack has accumulated 17 tackles, 12 of them solo stops, along with a sack and a tackle for a loss.
Notably, Jack was previously with the Philadelphia Eagles before expressing his intention to retire before the start of the season. However, he rejoined the Steelers, having previously played for the team as an unrestricted free agent in the 2022 offseason. In his previous stint with the Steelers in 2022, Jack played in 15 games, starting 13, and led the team with an impressive 104 tackles, including 61 solo stops. He also recorded three tackles for a loss and three passes defensed.
Before joining the Steelers, Jack spent six seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he gained valuable experience as a starter in 83 of the 89 games he played. During his time with the Jaguars, Jack displayed his defensive prowess, accumulating 511 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, 17 quarterback hits, three interceptions, 15 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. He also showcased his versatility by scoring two defensive touchdowns.
Joining Jack in the elevation is safety Eric Rowe, who has been signed to the practice squad since November 20. Rowe has also been elevated for multiple games this season, including the Week 16 matchup against the Bengals, where he secured his first interception as a Steelers player. He started against the Seahawks and the Ravens in Week 17 and Week 18, respectively, and has 29 tackles, 22 of them solo stops, along with an interception, a forced fumble, and a tackle for a loss.
Rowe, a veteran in his ninth season, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Throughout his career, he has played for the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, and most recently, the Carolina Panthers. In his rookie season with the Eagles, Rowe played in 16 games, starting in five, and accumulated 31 tackles, five passes defensed, and an interception.
Following his stint with the Eagles, Rowe was traded to the Patriots, where he spent three seasons, playing in 21 games, with 12 starts, and recording 50 tackles and an interception. He then signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2019 and spent four seasons with the team, participating in 62 games, with 38 starts. During his time with the Dolphins, Rowe amassed 300 tackles, including six tackles for a loss, three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, and two sacks.
The elevation of Myles Jack and Eric Rowe for the Super Wild Card game showcases the Steelers' depth and their strategic approach in bolstering their defensive lineup against the tough challenge posed by the Buffalo Bills. The Steelers will rely on their valuable contributions as they aim for a playoff victory.
