Harbaugh, the 34-year-old son of Jim Harbaugh, has spent the past five seasons in the same role at the University of Michigan.

Initially, it was reported by the Ann Arbor News that Harbaugh would be joining his father in Los Angeles to work on the Chargers' coaching staff. However, he has opted to reunite with Macdonald in Seattle instead. The two coaches previously worked together on the Baltimore Ravens' staff in 2014 and then at the University of Michigan in 2021.

Harbaugh's coaching journey began in 2008 as an undergraduate assistant at Oregon State. He then went on to spend three seasons as an offensive quality control coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 2012 to 2014. Following that, he joined his father at the University of Michigan, where he worked with tight ends, running backs, and most recently safeties. Harbaugh was promoted to assistant special teams coach in 2015 and then to coordinator in 2019.

In a noteworthy moment, Harbaugh served as the interim head coach for the first half of Michigan's victory over UNLV last September, filling in for his father who was serving a suspension.

Jay Harbaugh will be replacing Larry Izzo as Seattle's special teams coordinator, who had held the position under former coach Pete Carroll for the past four seasons. Harbaugh's appointment makes him the first coordinator and the second assistant to be hired since Macdonald was introduced as head coach.

This news was first reported by Sports Illustrated and signifies a significant addition to the Seattle Seahawks coaching staff as they prepare for the upcoming season.
