In a bid to snap their three-game losing streak, the Seattle Seahawks will be relying on quarterback Drew Lock this Sunday. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Geno Smith will be unable to play due to a groin injury, leaving the Seahawks with no choice but to turn to Lock.
Smith had been limited in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable for the game against the San Francisco 49ers. With the loss of Smith, the Seahawks are hopeful that Lock can step up and lead them to victory.
The Seahawks, currently standing at 6-6, have faced defeats against the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and Dallas Cowboys in recent weeks. They will be hosting the Philadelphia Eagles in their next matchup before facing a more favorable schedule in the final three weeks of the season.
This will be Lock's third appearance of the season. He previously stepped in for Smith during Week 4 against the New York Giants when Smith suffered a leg injury during a sideline tackle. Lock also saw some playing time in the Week 11 loss to the Los Angeles Rams when Smith sustained a triceps injury.
Lock, who was acquired by the Seahawks as part of the Russell Wilson trade, had competed with Smith for the starting quarterback position in 2022. Ultimately, Lock decided to re-sign with the Seahawks as a free agent, and now he will have his first opportunity to start for the team.
With the Seahawks' playoff hopes hanging in the balance, all eyes will be on Lock as he takes the field on Sunday. The team and fans alike will be hoping that Lock can make the most of this opportunity and lead the Seahawks to a much-needed victory.
