In preparation for Sunday's game against the Titans, the Seattle Seahawks have made some important moves to strengthen their defense. The team has elevated cornerback Kelvin Joseph and safety Ty Okada from their practice squad, providing much-needed depth in the secondary.
The decision to bring up Joseph and Okada comes as a result of several injuries within the Seahawks' defensive lineup. Star safety Jamal Adams has been ruled out due to a knee injury, while cornerbacks Devon Witherspoon and Tre Brown are listed as questionable. However, head coach Pete Carroll remains optimistic that Brown will be fit to play on Sunday.
Kelvin Joseph, a 2021 second-round pick, joined the Seahawks' practice squad just last month. If he gets the opportunity to play this week, it will mark his debut for the Seahawks. Before joining Seattle, Joseph had played in 26 games with the Cowboys in 2021 and 2022, recording 36 tackles, four passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He was subsequently traded to the Miami Dolphins before the start of this season, but was waived last month after appearing in four games primarily on special teams.
On the other hand, Ty Okada, an undrafted rookie from Montana State, has already had two practice squad elevations prior to this week. He made appearances in last week's win over the Eagles and in Seattle's Week 11 game against the Rams. While his playing time has been limited to special teams, Okada has shown promise in his short stint with the team.
In other news, Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, who was recently named a finalist for the 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year award, graciously hosted a holiday shopping spree for 100 students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County on Tuesday, December 19th, 2023. The event served as a heartwarming gesture from Wagner, giving back to the local community and spreading joy during the holiday season.
With the elevation of Joseph and Okada, the Seahawks aim to strengthen their defense as they face off against the Titans on Sunday. The team remains optimistic about cornerback Tre Brown's availability, but the addition of these defensive backs will provide valuable support in light of injuries. Seahawks fans eagerly await the game to see how the new additions fare on the field.
