According to sources, the University of Arizona is set to hire Brent Brennan as their new head football coach. Brennan, who has spent the past seven seasons leading the San Jose State program, will step into the role to replace Jedd Fisch. Fisch recently left Arizona to take over at Washington, following Kalen DeBoer's departure to Alabama after Nick Saban's retirement. Brennan has signed a five-year deal with Arizona.

The 50-year-old coach joined San Jose State in 2017 after working as a wide receivers coach at Oregon State. Although this will be his second stint at Arizona, as he served as a graduate assistant in 2000, Brennan has also worked at Hawaii, Washington, and Cal Poly in various coaching positions.

Under Brennan's tenure, San Jose State has achieved a 34-48 overall record. The team's most recent season concluded with a 7-6 record in 2023, culminating in a loss to Coastal Carolina in the Hawaii Bowl. Notably, Brennan made history as the first coach in San Jose State's history to lead the program to three bowl games.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 shortened season, San Jose State experienced one of their most successful campaigns, finishing with a 7-1 record and claiming their first conference title since 1990 when they won a share of the Big West championship.

The Wildcats, on the other hand, are amid a period of uncertainty as they prepare for their inaugural season as a member of the Big 12. With Fisch expected to bring much of his coaching staff to Washington, Arizona players have a 30-day window to enter the transfer portal. Already, running back Jonah Coleman, who rushed for 871 yards in the previous season, has decided to enter the transfer portal.

Despite the challenges that lie ahead for Arizona, the team was anticipated to retain 18 starters from both sides of the ball following their impressive 10-3 season prior to Fisch's departure. With the appointment of Brent Brennan, Arizona hopes to continue their success and navigate the upcoming Big 12 competition.
