The New Orleans Saints faced a double blow in Week 10 as they not only suffered a loss on the field but also saw three key players sidelined due to injuries. Head coach Dennis Allen provided an update on the status of quarterback Derek Carr, cornerback Marshon Lattimore, and wide receiver Michael Thomas on Monday.

Starting with Carr, it was revealed that the veteran quarterback underwent testing on his shoulder, which fortunately showed no further damage. This is a positive development considering Carr's previous AC joint sprain earlier in the season. However, he entered the league's concussion protocol, and his clearance will be closely monitored. The upcoming bye week in Week 11 will provide Carr with ample time to gain clearance before the team's next game.

In Carr's absence, veteran backup Jameis Winston took the field for the Saints. While his performance against the Vikings was a mixed bag, with 122 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions on 13-of-25 passing, Allen reiterated that Carr remains the undisputed starter when he returns to full health.

Turning to Lattimore and Thomas, the news is less promising. Allen acknowledged that both players suffered "fairly significant injuries" and are seeking second opinions before deciding on a course of action. Lattimore's injury diagnosis points to a high ankle sprain, and he is now considered week-to-week. Thomas, who has had a history of missed time, exited the Week 10 game after only two offensive snaps due to a knee injury. Allen's remarks suggest that Thomas's absence may continue despite the favorable bye week.

For the 5-5 Saints, who currently lead the NFC South, the recovery of Lattimore and Thomas is crucial for their push towards the playoffs. The team's offensive consistency has been a challenge throughout the year, making their absence all the more damaging. Further evaluations of Lattimore and Thomas will shed light on their recovery timelines, which will be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike.

Thomas, a two-time All-Pro, has been productive this season with 448 yards on 39 catches. However, his durability remains a concern since his last full season in 2019, when he set the league's single-season record for receptions with 149. The Saints will be hoping for a quick recovery for both Lattimore and Thomas to bolster their chances in the competitive NFC South division.

As the Saints utilize the bye week to regroup and recover, their focus will be on getting their injured players back on the field as soon as possible. The next few weeks will be crucial for the team's playoff aspirations, and the return of Carr, Lattimore, and Thomas will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in their success.
