In an exciting build-up to the upcoming Red Sox season, team President and CEO Sam Kennedy expressed his anticipation for the club to add players and make payroll adjustments to their 2024 roster. Speaking at the "Truck Day" celebrations at Fenway Park, Kennedy acknowledged that the offseason is still ongoing and there are still unsigned players and ongoing conversations taking place.

While the Red Sox have made some incremental changes to their roster, including significant signing Lucas Giolito and key trades involving players like Alex Verdugo and Chris Sale, Kennedy views the current roster as an unfinished product. Despite the team's commitment to making improvements, Kennedy confirmed last month that he expects the 2024 payroll to be lower than the previous year's total of around $225 million.

According to projections, the Red Sox have approximately $201 million already committed, leaving them with roughly $24 million to spend before reaching their 2023 total. However, it seems unlikely that the team will compete at the top end of the market for sought-after free agents such as Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman, and Jorge Soler.

Pitching remains a glaring need for the Red Sox, particularly in terms of rotation additions. When asked about the likelihood of addressing this need, Kennedy deferred to chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, stating that he doesn't want to predict the form or shape of any potential additions or changes.

The recent announcement of former general manager Theo Epstein rejoining the Red Sox as a part-owner and senior advisor for Fenway Sports Group has injected further excitement into the organization. Kennedy believes that the team has made significant strides towards getting back to its winning ways this winter, even if the roster changes have failed to fully satisfy the fan base.

Kennedy emphasized that actions speak louder than words, acknowledging the frustration that fans may feel after two disappointing seasons. He expressed confidence in the organization's internal efforts and the need to continue building towards a championship-caliber team.

The "Truck Day" festivities, attended by approximately 50-75 fans outside Fenway Park, followed the exciting news of Epstein's return. As the countdown to the official workout for Red Sox pitchers and catchers in Fort Myers begins, anticipation continues to grow for the team's future moves.

The Red Sox are determined to make the necessary additions to their roster and believe they are on the right path towards reclaiming their championship status.
