BOSTON - The Boston Red Sox have officially announced the appointment of Craig Breslow as the new Chief Baseball Officer. Breslow, a former lefty reliever with an impressive 12-season career in Major League Baseball, will be responsible for overseeing all baseball operations matters for the team. The decision comes as the Red Sox aim to reverse their recent struggles and return to the top of the American League East.

Red Sox principal owner, John Henry, expressed confidence in Breslow's abilities, stating, "We feel strongly that Craig is the right person at the right time to lead our baseball department. Craig's understanding of the game is remarkable." Henry also noted that Breslow's strategic philosophy and operational acumen were key factors in his selection for the role.

The search for a new Chief Baseball Officer began after the Red Sox parted ways with Chaim Bloom on September 14. Breslow emerged as a standout candidate due to his extensive experience both on and off the field. Notably, Breslow previously pitched for the Red Sox in 2006 and from 2012 to 2015, playing a crucial role in the team's successful 2013 World Series campaign.

"Craig was a standout candidate," said Red Sox president & CEO Sam Kennedy. "The praise from fellow baseball executives was impressive, but what truly distinguished him were the resounding character references from former teammates." Kennedy highlighted the strong support for Breslow from prominent players such as David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, and David Ross, who all praised his understanding of what it takes to succeed in Boston.

Prior to joining the Red Sox, Breslow served as the Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Pitching for the Chicago Cubs. He remained with the Cubs organization after retiring from playing professionally in 2017.

The announcement of Breslow's appointment comes at a critical time for the Red Sox, as they aim to turn their fortunes around after finishing at the bottom of the AL East for three of the past four seasons. With pitching being a key concern for the team, Breslow's extensive experience as a former pitcher and his successful track record in player development make him an ideal fit for the position.

Breslow expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating, "I couldn't be more excited to return to the Boston Red Sox, an organization that means so much to my family and to me. I know firsthand how special winning in Boston is, and I look forward to once again experiencing that passion and success with our fans."

The Red Sox's decision to bring in Craig Breslow as their new Chief Baseball Officer reflects their commitment to revitalizing their organization and winning back their passionate fan base. With his strong baseball knowledge, strategic mindset, and understanding of the Boston market, Breslow is poised to lead the team to future success. The Red Sox faithful eagerly await the positive impact Breslow will make as he takes on his new role.
