The suspension comes as another blow to Garoppolo's uncertain future with the Raiders.

According to ESPN, the Raiders are expected to release Garoppolo next month before he becomes eligible for an $11.25 million roster bonus. The decision to let go of the quarterback comes after a disappointing season in which he struggled to make an impact, throwing seven touchdown passes and nine interceptions with a quarterback rating of 77.6.

Garoppolo's suspension stems from his use of a prescribed medication without having a valid therapeutic use exemption from the NFL. This violation puts his days in Las Vegas at risk, especially after interim coach Antonio Pierce replaced him with rookie Aidan O'Connell for the remaining games last season. Pierce was named the team's permanent coach last month, and the Raiders also brought in Tom Telesco as their general manager.

Garoppolo expressed his desire to continue playing elsewhere after the season, understanding that his situation was out of his control. He stated, "A lot of things are out of my control. I've had situations like that before, so as a player, you've got to roll with the punches a little bit. Whatever happens, I think it all happens for a reason. You've got to make the best of your situation."

With Garoppolo's uncertain future, the Raiders now have important decisions to make regarding their quarterback position. O'Connell, who went 5-4 under Pierce's coaching, could potentially retain the starting role, or Las Vegas may explore options in free agency, trades, or the upcoming draft to secure an upgrade.

O'Connell, acknowledging the potential competition for the starting position, said, "There hasn't been a lot of years I've been the unquestioned starter going in, so I'm used to competing [...] It's the NFL. It's the best of the best, so it's my job to try to keep my job."

As the offseason progresses, the Raiders will be evaluating their options and making strategic choices to solidify their quarterback position for the upcoming season. The suspension of Garoppolo highlights the unpredictability of the NFL and the constant need for teams to adapt and make the best of their situations.
