In Sunday's match against the Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback Kenny Pickett was forced to leave the game in the second quarter due to an ankle injury. Pickett's status for the remainder of the game is currently questionable.
Leading up to the game, Pickett was already nursing an ankle injury, which had been heavily taped. However, on a critical third-and-goal play at the 3-yard line, Pickett attempted to scramble up the middle but was tackled around the ankles. The impact of the tackle left Pickett down on the field before being helped off by trainers. Subsequently, Pickett was evaluated in the blue medical tent before being taken back to the locker room for further examination.
In Pickett's absence, backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky took over the reins of the offense. However, despite a valiant effort, the Steelers were unable to convert on fourth-and-goal, with running back Najee Harris being stuffed for a turnover on downs.
Prior to his departure from the game, Pickett had completed 7 out of 10 passes for a total of 70 yards. His absence will undoubtedly have an impact on the Steelers' offensive strategy and could potentially hinder their ability to generate scoring opportunities.
Unfortunately, the Steelers' injury woes do not end with Pickett. Linebacker Elandon Roberts is also sidelined due to a groin issue, further adding to the team's challenges. Additionally, the availability of guard Isaac Seumalo is uncertain as he deals with a shoulder injury.
It remains to be seen how long Pickett will be out of action and the gravity of his ankle injury. The Steelers will eagerly await further updates on his condition as they focus on navigating the remainder of the game without their starting quarterback.
