The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun their search for a new offensive coordinator, and one intriguing name that has emerged is Kliff Kingsbury. According to NFL insider Peter King, the Steelers are reportedly interested in speaking with Kingsbury about the position.

Kingsbury, who has an extensive background working with quarterbacks, has caught the attention of the Steelers due to his experience with top-notch passers. As a former quarterback himself, Kingsbury played from 2003-2007 before transitioning into coaching.

His coaching journey began in 2008 as an offensive quality control coach at the University of Houston. He quickly climbed the ranks, eventually becoming a quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator in 2010. Kingsbury then moved on to Texas A&M as the offensive coordinator before receiving his first head coaching opportunity at Texas Tech, where he coached quarterback Patrick Mahomes throughout his entire collegiate career.

Under Kingsbury's guidance, Mahomes flourished and went on to have a successful NFL career. This success led Kingsbury to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. During his time in Arizona, he worked closely with quarterback Kyler Murray, further showcasing his ability to develop quarterbacks with unique skill sets.

Peter King believes that Kingsbury's experience and track record with quarterbacks make him an intriguing candidate for the Steelers. "This is a guy who has tentacles into some of the most interesting and progressive quarterbacks to have played the game," King said.

Notably, King also mentioned that the Steelers are known as a running team. However, he believes that if Kingsbury were to join the organization, the team would prioritize establishing a strong running game. This aligns with Kingsbury's approach in his previous coaching stints, where he successfully transformed the Cardinals into a more potent rushing unit.

Before Kingsbury's arrival in Arizona, the Cardinals had struggled in the rushing department. In his first year as head coach, the team saw a significant improvement, jumping to the eighth-most rushing yards in the league. The following season, the Cardinals continued their upward trajectory, finishing with the seventh-most rushing yards. As the running game flourished, the passing game gradually caught up, and by the 2021 season, the Cardinals boasted the eighth-most passing yards in the league.

Despite being fired after a disappointing 2022 season, it is worth noting that Kingsbury played a pivotal role in Kyler Murray's development. Murray's success led to a massive contract extension, signifying Kingsbury's influence as a quarterback coach.

While there has been no official confirmation of the Steelers' meeting with Kingsbury, Peter King's remarks indicate their interest. Steelers fans eagerly await any further developments in their search for an offensive coordinator.
